This paper explores the evolving relationship between machine translation (MT) and human translation (HT) in the context of linguistic accuracy, cognitive processing,
and cultural sensitivity. The study compares the capabilities and limitations of artificial intelligence–based translation systems and human interpreters in multilingual communication. While neural machine translation (NMT) technologies such as DeepL, Google Translate, and OpenAI’s ChatGPT have achieved remarkable improvements in fluency and speed, they still fall short in capturing pragmatic nuance, cultural connotation, and emotional expressiveness. The research emphasizes that the cognitive and ethical dimensions of human translation remain irreplaceable, particularly in diplomacy, education, and intercultural communication. This paper concludes that the most effective approach lies in a collaborative integration of machine efficiency and human interpretive expertise.
